Shaquan Henderson, of Pennsauken, competed in Traditional Forms, Breaking and Sparring. Shaquan had a tremendous day winning a First-Place trophy in Forms, First-Place in Board Breaking and a Second Place in Sparring. Shaquan is shown in the photo with his two first place awards.
Jaden Johnson, who also lives in Pennsauken, competed in Traditional Weapons, Forms, Board Breaking and Sparring. Jaden did an exceptional job in his first national tournament with a Third Place in Weapons, Third Place in Forms, as well as a Second Place in Breaking and a Third Place in Sparring. Jaden and Shaquan are shown in the photo getting ready for their respective sparring divisions.
Sahbumnim Keith Shaw, the owner of Shaw’s National Karate Institute said, “Shaquan and Jaden did a phenomenal job. Students come from all over the country to compete in the National Karate Championships and this year even had competitors come from as far away as Italy! Whenever you perform against a display of talent like this and in front of a large audience, it takes confidence, courage, determination and character. Shaquan and Jaden displayed a winning attitude, and did not quit! I am extremely proud of both of them for representing our school and demonstrating the mental and physical discipline and overall essence of what it means to be a Black Belt student at Shaw’s National Karate Institute.”
